Process of Apple Coors

We decided on our game was we went through the games we each picked for class that day in our group and put them together. We chose to put beer pong and catch phrase together into one game. We really concentrated on the aesthetic of our game. We wanted to add a fun feel to it and make it very engaging. First, we worked on making sure the directions and rules were correct and easy to follow, and thought a flow chart would also be the best representation for our game. We then all worked together on the graphics and making sure everything was cohesive with one another, and similar colors as well. We had a couple of names for the game like Apples to Pong, and Apple Pong, but ended with Apple Coors. We thought it was not only a great pun, but also spoke more to the college level players. Every part of our game was carefully thought out and I feel it is very successful aesthetic wise, and concept wise as well.

Blog Over Peer's Infographic

I chose Naomi's infographic because of how eye-catching, extremely unique, and aesthetically pleasing it is. I love her color palette and her illustrations so much.  She had great design in so many areas, when it came to spacing, hierarchy, and more. The most interesting thing I learned from her infographic, and maybe it just stuck out because of how great the design was for it, but the different countries that are victims to working in sweatshops and how much their salary is. It was very eye opening and something I wasn't very aware of. One piece of information that would've been kind of interesting is increases and decreases of sweatshops throughout history, if there really is any. Naomi's infographic inspired me greatly when it came to the design aspect of it. She did an amazing job, and I can tell she took a lot of time and thought into doing it. Her infographic inspired me to try to step outside of the box a little more and stick to design that has already been done over and over.

CONCEPT STATEMENT

1. What is the thesis statement of your infographic?

Rainforests in Brazil are being destroyed at a fast rate due to farming, cattle ranching, and much more. While the government is trying to decline deforestation in Brazil now, it is still a major issue that isn't getting the attention it needs.

2. Why did you choose to explore this topic?

I chose to explore this topic because it seems to be a very overlooked topic. There is not much awareness, that I have seen, on the news and social media. While it is problem that is not talked about, it is still a huge problem that needs to be solved because it is destroying our planet.

AUDIENCE

3. Who is the audience?

The audience is anyone who knows very little about deforestation. Someone who is just now really hearing about it and seeing it. While the info is about the rainforest in Brazil, it is targeted to anyone outside of Brazil as well considering this has become a global issue and is happening in rainforests in other countries as well.

4. What does the audience need to know and why?

The audience needs to know the impact deforestation has had on our planet, some of the major issues, and who is causing it. Knowing these things, an audience is not only better informed on some of the important aspects, but it can help to lead the audience to find a solution to the problem instead of letting the problem reoccur.

5. How do you want your audience to respond emotionally to the information?

I want the audience to be saddened by the information in front of them. Giving them information that isn’t the most positive will lead them emotionally to want to help.

6. What considerations were made in your design based on your audience?

Some things I did was I added a small description of what deforestation was, since the audience I am trying to get across to is not too well informed on the topic. I also didn't make it too graphic in terms of showing forests on fire, or dying animals, etc because as an audience that is new to being aware of this problem, I would want the information handed to me a little more gently so it is not overwhelming.

8. What variables are included in your infographic?

I included a timeline, pie chart, statistics, and other simple graphics to get a simple point across about deforestation.

SYNTHESIS

9. Tell me a little about your process of synthesizing the data that you found.

While my infographic may seem a little busy, the information within it is organized by what’s important to know first, and by topic as well. So one section of my infographic talks about species, and my timeline is more about the destroying of the forests throughout time.

10. What data did you decide to include? Why?

Some of the data I thought was important to share in my infographic was not only how the amazon forest is being destroyed, but the species within it are being destroyed as well. Also, I provide who is destroying it and what it is doing to our planet overall.

11. What data did you decide to exclude? Why?

One big thing I decided to keep out of my infographic was the major role the government plays in this as well. Not only did I want to load this audience that isn’t extremely aware of this problem with additional information that shies away from the deforestation itself, but there is quite a bit of information on that that I would’ve had to leave some of it out which could’ve potentially made the audience more confused on deforestation then when they started.  

DESIGN

12. What are the goals of your visual aesthetic?

My goals for my visual aesthetic was to get a different look and feel of deforestation. To make is simple, yet pleasing to the eye where the audience will remember it and not be overwhelmed so they can really take in the information they are reading. The color scheme of my infographic represents the a subtle burning of the forests, considering it is more of a smoky color than a green lively color.

13. What can we learn from your infographic?

What we can learn from my infographic is how serious deforestation is and how much it is growing and has grown in the last few years. It is a major issue not just in one country, but many and the negative impact it has on our planet. We can also learn from my infographic that farmers are the main reason deforestation is happening and that is an important fact considering we are so unaware of who is actually a great cause of this. Another important piece of information is that deforestation is killing off the animals that live inside these forests as well. It is not just affecting the trees, but living creatures.
